Not Just Blackbird Boudoir
Hi. I'm Keri.
Photographer. Artist. Gemini. Hot mess express. Fierce goddess.
And probably the person who's going to be crawling around on the floor during your session yelling, "YES. THAT. DON'T MOVE."
I've spent most of my life behind a camera, but what I've photographed has changed right alongside me.
When I was younger, I traveled across the country photographing sport horses. As my life shifted toward home and family, my photography shifted too. Curiously Clever Photography grew from that chapter of my life—a studio devoted to maternity, birth, newborns, milestones, and all the beautifully chaotic pieces of family life.
And then I found myself changing again.
I wanted to explore empowerment, sexuality, vulnerability, and the complicated relationship we can have with our own bodies. I wanted to experience being photographed in a space where I could feel completely comfortable and safe being myself.
When I couldn't quite find what I was looking for, I decided to create it.
Blackbird was born from my own search for empowerment. It's grown into something much bigger.
I understand messy buns and toddler meltdowns. I understand balancing family, work, and whatever tiny scrap of yourself is left at the end of the day.
I understand the power of a sexual awakening.
I know what it feels like to command a room—and the completely different kind of power that can exist in surrender.
I've felt worshipped. I've felt like the outcast.
All of those pieces came with me when I created Blackbird.
I wanted a space where you don't have to make yourself smaller, quieter, straighter, softer, easier, or more palatable before walking through the door.
A place where you can explore who you are without having to explain it first.
And the studio became something bigger, too.
I'm the person behind the lens at Blackbird, but I'm also behind much of what happens within these walls. The studio is home to Blackbird Boudoir, my empowerment work; Curiously Clever Photography, my family and motherhood photography; and The Curio, the gallery I created to give fellow artists a place to share their work. I also open the studio to other photographers and creatives who collaborate, create, and bring their own perspectives into the space.
So when you walk through the doors at 2316 NE 8th Rd, you might see a newborn being photographed in one room, an artist hanging work for an upcoming exhibition, another photographer creating something entirely their own—or me turning on the music and getting ready to spend the next few hours creating something with you. The names on the walls may change. The reason we're here doesn't.
There is one goal inside this studio: to uplift people and create art.
And when it's your turn?
Spend the day with me.
Get pampered.
Put on the music.
Take up space.
Try something that scares you a little.
Laugh your ass off.
Let yourself be soft.
Let yourself be powerful.
Let yourself be whatever the hell you feel like being that day.
We'll make art out of it.
And I hope when you walk back through those doors, your cup is overflowing, you're walking on clouds, and you're wondering where the hell this version of you has been hiding.
